A Christmas Present for Thetford - £350,000 Approved for Key Projects
As the festive season begins, the Thetford Neighbourhood Board, (chaired by local business leader, Jo Pearson) is delighted to announce that it has approved nearly £350,000 in funding in recent board meetings, a substantial boost for a series of priority town-wide regeneration and community projects.
Under its mandate to draw up and deliver a long-term regeneration vision for Thetford, the Board has allocated these funds as part of the ...forThetford Programme. The investment comes as the town moves from planning toward tangible delivery, giving early momentum to initiatives designed to benefit Thetford's residents, businesses and public spaces.
Chair of the Thetford Neighbourhood Board, Jo pearson, commented: "This is a great Christmas present for the people of Thetford. We know this town has been patiently waiting for real change. Now, thanks to this funding, and to the people of Thetford telling us what they want us to spend it on, we can begin to turn ambition into action. It's a first step, and a meaningful one.
"Thetfordians may have seen some exciting announcements recently. Whether it's the launch of the Further Education and Community Hub project; the St Peters Heritage Project; the feasibility study on an active travel plan - that's walking, cycling, running, wheeling to High Lodge; or this major announcement of £50k grant funding being made available for local community and voluntary groups; this initial funding is helping to get major projects off the ground that the people of Thetford have told us they need."
The Board's funding decisions are driven by the outcome of a groundbreaking public engagement campaign that took place in late summer 2025 where over 1,000 people engaged with us and prioritised what Thetford needs to succeed. These include Riverside and town centre regeneration, education and skills investment, improved accessibility, heritage and cultural regeneration, enhanced residential estates, improvements to the town's train station and support for the community sector.
This announcement forms an initial part of the wider national Pride in Place (formerly Plan for Neighbourhoods) initiative, which pledges up to £20 million over the next decade for Thetford to deliver regeneration and community-led growth.
The £50k Community Resilience Fund will be launching early in January 2026. More information can be found on www.forthetford.co.uk.
